The formula
No-show rate = missed appointments ÷ total scheduled appointments
For example, a clinic with 800 scheduled appointments in a month and 96 no-shows has a no-show rate of 12%.
Why the number matters
- Revenue loss — every empty slot is unbilled clinical time that cannot be recovered.
- Scheduling inefficiency — staff and rooms are committed to patients who never arrive.
- Patient flow — other patients wait longer for slots that no-shows occupy on the books.
From calculation to prevention
Tracking your rate tells you the size of the problem. It does not tell you which appointments will be missed next week. To act in advance, you need prediction.
NoShowControl uses your appointment history, confirmation patterns, and patient behavior to flag high-risk appointments before they happen — so the rate you measure next month is lower than the one you measured today.
